หลักวิธีดำเนินการตรวจวัดสิ่งแวดล้อมเล่มนี้ พัฒนาขึ้นเพื่อให้ครูและนักเรียนใช้เป็นหลักในการตรวจวัดสภาพแวดล้อมธรรมชาติในท้องถิ่น โดยมีเป้าหมายเพื่อให้นักเรียนได้พัฒนาความรู้และทักษะการตรวจวัดทางวิทยาศาสตร์ที่ถูกต้อง แม่นยำ ได้มาตรฐานสากล เพื่อให้ได้ข้อมูลที่ถูกต้อง แม่น���ำ สามารถนำไปเปรียบเทียบหาความสัมพันธ์ขององค์ประกอบต่างๆ ของ สิ่งแวดล้อม ในลักษณะวิทยาศาสตร์โลกทั้งระบบ (Earth System Science) ทั้งในระดับท้องถิ่นและระดับโลกได้อย่าง มีประสิทธิภาพหลักวิธีดำเนินการตรวจวัดสิ่งแวดล้อมเล่มนี้ พัฒนามาจากหลักวิธีดำเนินการตรวจวัดสิ่งแวดล้อมตามมาตรฐานสากลของโครงการ GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) โดยนักวิชาการและผู้เชี่ยวชาญของสถาบันส่งเสริมการสอนวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี (สสวท.) นักวิทยาศาสตร์ และนักการศึกษาจากมหาวิทยาลัยเครือข่ายของ สสวท. รวมทั้งหน่วยงานทางด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม ซึ่ง สสวท. ขอขอบคุณทุกท่านมา ณ โอกาสนี้
